Small and medium enterprises recently received support from Emalahleni Local authority in the form of the material worth thousands of rands excluding the hawker stalls which benefitted from sum of about R1.3 million. Bead makers, Youth entrepreneurs (Sinako Youth entrepreneurial co-op) that is highly rated by the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, Car wash, Glen Grey co-op, Vukuzenzele, Sizolisiwe Co-op and  Mobi gym to mention but few of the beneficiaries.
Councillor Nomveliso Nyukwana, Mayor for Emalahleni Local Municipality reminded the attendees that we know what happened in the past, now we must look forward to developing our communities. She said we are here to encourage one another knowing that there is support from our local authority and government departments mandate to render such services. read more

Economic Boost for Emalahleni

Emalahleni Local Municipality had a major boost in economic development as Elitheni coalmine made a major blast in Indwe one of the three towns of this locality. This was a historic moment in the history of the Eastern Province to have a coal blast of this magnitude.

The blast comprise of over 9000 blast holes drilled, blasting circa 10 000 square meters of ground, removing circa 250 000 tonnes of overburden rock and exposing over 25 000 tonnes of coal.

Premier Noxolo Kiviet was the guest of honour to do the count down towards the blasting minute which took place at 18H12. When speaking with the audience composed of all the structures of Emalahleni, government departments, stakeholders and members of the media that were represented in this programme said, “Let us not fight over a meatless born, this is a job creation project. You are fighting for the only employment available in your locality the municipal and government employment that cannot accommodate you all” read more


During the Women’s Month Emalahleni Local Municipality celebrated women in fashion as they were gathered in Indwe where all relevant sectors in business development were invited to capacitate women who are already in business and those that envisage becoming business women in cooperatives. This day was driven by the theme “Working together to enhance women’s opportunities to economic empowerment” read more


At The Wanderers Cricket Stadium in Johannesburg during the National Music Championships Emalahleni Field band was amongst the competitors performing with the theme “Dance in the darkness till the sun rise” .This is a theme with the message of hope as dancing need the energy and courage, darkness is associated with fear but through all this struggle the sun will be born and hope will conquer. read more
